Down, but Not Out

[Duo's been quiet for a while. He's been minding his own business and sitting in the clinic. He's been too tired and weak to do much besides healing and eating very small amounts of bland food. At least the clinic is full of nice people who help him. He's also been sticking close to the blinded Hijiri. He's worried about his lover and doing everything he can to watches out for him.

Still, it's time for him to return to their house. He's sick of being in the clinic. His hands are too sore to write.]

Can someone help Hijiri and I get back to our house? I'm sick a bein' here, nice as Kam and everyone is. Just don't like clinics.

Also, I need to talk to the followin' people 'fore somethin' else happens to me. Don't know if ya guys are still 'round.

Allen, Haine, Leto, Sasarai, Uriko, and Val. Also, can you come check on me, Kam? Need ta talk to ya too.

[Duo's quiet for a moment before squeezing Kamui's hand.] You're Kamui or the Kamui, whatever, because of God, right? All powerful, super see-all kinda guy. He gave you this destiny because it was his will. Wouldn't the Malnosso fail to do the same thing since they aren't almighty or at least, wouldn't they be punished for trying to be God?

... [looks up at Duo] ...you think so? I... I don't know. No one has ever really explained how this how destiny thing works... they just... they just all expected me to find out on my own.

I don't know either, but I thought that's how it's s'pposed ta work. Shoulda learned something growing up in a church, but I really wasn't payin' attention ta Father Maxwell. Don't know how multiple personalities work either. Don't know if another would still be you or not. Death is so much easier and makes so much more sense than God or destiny does. Hell, ya did your part so the destiny should be over anyway so ya can't make another choice even if ya wanted to. There, that makes sense. It doesn't matter if they give you another personality. Ya can't redo what ya already did. [He sounds so sure of himself.]

Now, onta somethin' more important. What's for lunch?

[blink, blinkity, blink] ... lunch? Ah! I haven't bought anything for lunch yet!! I-I'll be right back! [and hurriedly grabs his coat and shopping basket then runs out of the clinic]
