Place of Birth: L2 Colony

In-depth Synopses: After Colony 195, five young men are sent to the Earth in specialized, giant, human-shaped battle machines (mobile suits) known as Gundams. In this time of severe political repression, wars have left Earth under the control of a chocking government known as the United Earth Sphere Alliance. Working in the background, the Romefeller Foundation, complete with its own secret military force known as the Order of the Zodiac (OZ), seeks to eliminate all opposition and control Earth and the colonies. The space colonies exist in Earth’s orbit as a way to ease the Earth’s population pressure.

Duo Maxell is 02 of the five Gundam Pilots. Fun-loving and full of jokes, Duo is the spirit of their small group. He’s loud-mouthed, annoying, teasing, and an expert at stealth. Duo grew up on the streets of the L2 colonies as part of a gang of other street urchins. The leader of the gang, Solo, cared for Duo and the other kids, teaching them to beg, steal, and survive on the streets. Duo took his name after Solo, who was his best friend, died of a fever. The rest of the gang was taken in by the Maxwell Church, run by Father Maxwell and Sister Helen. While at the church, Duo confessed his disbelief in God while saying the only god he knew was Death. It was also at the church that his hair was first braided into his distinctive braid by Sister Helen.

During a rebellion on L2, rebels took over the Church demanding things form the priest. Duo overheard the rebels talking and agreed to bring them the mobile suit if they would promise to leave and not hurt anyone. Duo was too slow returning with the mobile suit and found the church burned to the ground and everyone dead except Sister Helen. Sister Helen blessed Duo before she died in his arms and gave him the cross he wears under his clothes (okay, parts of that – particularly the cross part – may be fan based, but I find it very likely so I included it). Duo took his last name from Father Maxwell since he was the closest thing to a father Duo ever had.

After leaving the ruins of the Maxwell Church, Duo stows away on a spaceship owned by the Sweepers Group and Professor G, recognizable by his shaggy mop of hair and large, white nose sticking out of it. The Sweepers Group works as the trash men of the colonies who pilot spaceships between the colonies and wherever they take the trash (farther out in space I suppose). When caught by Professor G, Duo introduced himself as, “Duo Maxwell, who may run and hide, but never tells a lie.” G asked him if he was Maxwell’s Demon (physics thing that’s kinda funny) and Duo replied with his alias as the God of Death or Shinigami in Japanese. After seeing his parents die, Solo die, and his surrogate family die, Duo’s convinced that everyone close to him will die because he’s the God of Death. Duo became a member of the Sweepers Group and learned to tinker, build, and fix anything mechanical.

Professor G was part of the original Operation Meteor, a plan to drop one of the colonies on the Earth, destroy most of the Earth’s population, remove the Alliance from power, and establish the Barton Foundation as the Earth’s ruling power. G, for his part of the plan, built the Deathscythe, a mobile suit designed for stealth and fitting Duo’s capabilities. Duo was fed up with Operation Meteor and tried to destroy the Gundam, but found the G had disabled the bombs. Instead, G prompted Duo to steal the Gundam and take it to Earth and join forces with Howard, a mysterious man who always wears Hawaiian shirts and designed the Tallgeese. The Tallgeese was the first attempt to build a Gundam, but was too large and powerful to pilot until the Lightning Count of OZ, Zechs Marquise/Milliardo Peacecraft (it’s complicated), got his 19 year-old hands on it.

Duo arrives on Earth in his customary jodhpurs, white turtle neck, and cassock-style black shirt over it. Duo’s outfit is designed to make him look like a priest – despite his rolled up sleeves and three foot braid down his back. His eyes change colors (in the anime I swear the coloring people can’t make up their minds) from blue to purple with his mood (alright, the mood thing is my thing because my eyes do it from shades of blue to grey). Duo causes as much destruction as possible before he meets up with Heero Yuy, pilot 01, and shoots him… twice… Apparently feeling bad, Duo breaks Heero out of an Alliance hospital where he’s strapped down. After blowing lots of holes in the place, the two pilots escape by jumping out of a hole in the side of the very tall building, but Heero neglects to pull the cord of his parachute until it’s too late to land softly. Duo helps Heero out of there and to Howard. Duo’s very pissed when Heero takes off after stealing Deathscythe’s spare parts so he can fix his own Gundam, Wing.

They meet up again later and Duo meets the other three pilots, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner, and Chang Wufei – numbered respectively. Duo works with Heero as partners to destroy as much Alliance property as possible before OZ takes a colony hostage and demands the pilots stop and surrender their Gundams. Heero self-detonates his Gundam… while he’s still sorta in it, and Duo joins with Quatre until they decide to move back into space to help the colonies refuse OZ’s influence and control (even though they don’t want the Gundams’ help and actually end up hating the pilots). Duo and Deathscythe are captured. Duo’s face is plastered all over the colonies and Earth as OZ plans to make an example of him. He breaks out with Heero’s help, but Deathscythe is destroyed by the undercover Trowa. Duo is captured again but this time with Wufei. They nearly die as the oxygen to their cell is cut off, but they escape with the help of the dying Lady Une, the woman who held the colony hostage, and he makes off with the incomplete Deathscythe Hell (which is freaking awesome and pretty much invisible while he’s cloaked).

Duo later appears living with Hilde, a former soldier in training for OZ, and together they work to complete the Deathscythe Hell. Unfortunately, Duo’s discovered again (hey, his face was plastered everywhere) and captured… again by OZ officer Trent (who’s a little batty). Trent forces Duo to pilot the Gundam Wing Zero so he can use the data to help understand the Zero System. The Zero System is a scary computer program that calculates massive amounts of battle data and every possible outcome of a situation and feeds it directly into the pilot’s mind. The Zero System’s scary as hell and basically fries Duo’s brain making him a little crazy for a short period of time.

Later Duo encounters Trowa, who was believed to be dead after he sacrificed himself to bring Quatre back from insanity (not the edge, Quatre was nuts). Duo tells Quatre that Trowa wasn’t actually lost in space, making the blonde (yes with an e. blond is an adjective, blonde is a noun) determined to find Trowa for himself.

(Okay, I’m tired. Let’s make the rest of this short.)

A new faction of rebels, White Fang, forms and wants Duo to join with his Gundam. Duo refuses because they’re too much like OZ and tells them basically to go screw themselves. White Fang builds this massive super weapon, the Battleship Libra, but the battleship is destroyed by the pilots, Quatre’s people (the Maganac Corps), Earth forces, and the battleship Peacemillion (okay so Peacemillion crashed into it, same thing). The Libra explodes killing everyone left on it, but a piece of the ship remains and starts to fall to Earth. The piece is destroyed by Heero and the Wing Gundam (much more dramatic than I’m making it sound, but that’s his story, not Duo’s).

Yay, Earth is saved and the pilots still live. This is the point where Duo’s taken from.

The following is Duo's coded information.

Duo Maxwell

Age: Subject believes 16 years
Sex: Male
Species: Human

History: Subject born in space on colony V08744 known as part of the L2 cluster located in the Lagrange Point 2. Subject's parents murdered due to rebelion while subject was four and present. Following the murder, subject moved to the streets.

Subject lived as part of a "gang" of other orphan children lead by a "Solo." Subject learned many skills including those for theft and stealth. Subject also obtained several scars and infections while living without shelter. "Solo" died of a virus that the subject was unable to obtain the antidote to. Subject believe this death to be his fault. Subject believes he was seven at the time of Solo's death and was relocated to the colony's "Maxwell Church."

The following year, the "Maxwell Church Massacre" resulted in 245 dead including the "Father Maxwell" and "Sister Helen." Subject believes this disaster to be his fault due to his failure to obtain a "mobile suit" in time to please the rebels occupying the church. Subject suffered from burns to the soles of his feet while walking the rubble of the razed church.

Subject's life continued in space where he moved aimlessly through the colony's clusters and survived much as he did on the streets as a younger child. This continued for three years before subject was caught on a ship belonging to a group group known as "Sweepers." Subject believed himself to be 11 years at time.

Subject trained with a man he only knows as "Professor G" for 4 years. At this time, subject and four other "pilots" were to take control of "Earth" after a colony was dropped on it. Subject was told to disregard these orders, steal the "Gundam", and target "OZ bases." Subject continued in this matter, shot one of the other "pilots" he was to work with, and was taken just after he believes they saved the "Earth."

Successful Captures: Subject has been captured 1 time after massive property damage.

Experiments: A full blood panel was run on subject. Several antibodies and even poisons were found in subject's body. Subject appears to be able to fight most foreign bodies introduced to his system. Subject is particularly successful fighting microorganisms and substances from his own habitat. Subject shows great resistance to other habitat's microoganisms and substances as long as the habitat is similar to its own.

Subject has gained control over its body heat as well as fire. Subject was tested for his endurance maintaining his in several conditions including extreme cold, heat, dryness, humidity, and after it was starved, dehydrated, and not allowed to rest.

Subject suffered burns during this experiment. Subject is now marked by a metal "cross" it was aquired with the subject. The "cross" was burned into its skin on the chest directly over its sternum. Subject also suffered burns that have scared on its hands and burns that were healed to its lungs.

Further experimentation on subjects ability to survive under unfavorable conditions is needed.

Deaths: Subject has not died during captivity.

Death Penalties: Does not apply to subject.
