Needs a Favor

Alright, I need someone who knows 'bout magic and stuff. I wanna put a spell into a piece of jewelery and I don't know how. Need someone ta help me or put the spell in it. Actually, I need ta do it twice.

Apparently I need someone who's skilled with enchantments. The long-term, doesn't wear off kinda thing.

[Duo's stolen the necklace he gave to Hijiri for Valentine's Day. Hopefully the musician doesn't notice that it's been replaced by a duplicate. Then again, Duo's acting suspicious, sticking close to Hijiri's side since he doesn't have the protection of the necklace and he's hiding his journal.]

(ooc: Also, Nami, is it alright to say that Duo already stole it? I know we were going to do something with that, but Duo needs it for plot. We can say he stole it in the shower while the soap and Duo's hair was distracting?)

[It's a short trip, as it's really not too far from the village. There's a fallen tree, and it looks like someone took the time to cut off all the branches and stack them off to the side of the small clearing. Perfect spot to be for now.]

This should suffice.

Alright. [Duo strokes his fingers over the metal a few more times before holding the flat disk out to Sheik.] This'll work right? Or should I make it the same shape as Hijiri's necklace? Does that matter?

This should be fine. I do not think it matters. [He takes the disc and goes to sit near the log.]

Come here and sit. This may be a little while. [He flips open the book to check and make sure he's got the right idea for this before he closes his eyes and taps into the power he so rarely uses.]

[Duo settles on the long near Sheik, but not too close. He's not sure how much space his friend is going to need. At least he knows to keep his mouth shut... for now.]

[It takes a bit more effort than he remembers it being, but eventually, the entire clearing appears to darken a little and little shadowy tendrils of magic begin to materialize around Sheik. When he opens his eyes again, rather than their usual blood-red, they are bright red.]

[One Shadow-tendril snakes out to meet Duo, while the others weave themselves into a tangle of peculiar letters and symbols. It twists about Duo, seemingly taking parts of his being from him, but leaving him whole all the same. The Shadow would feel both cold, yet smooth and soft to the touch. Sweat begins to bead on the Sheikah's forehead by the time he finally calls back the magic 'copying' Duo's state of being.]

[Duo starts looking around as things get darker. This is very weird and it's creeping him out a bit. The trails of shadow don't help, but they bring his attention back to Sheik and he's a little surprised at the change in his friend.

As the shadow moves around Duo, he can't resist reaching up to touch it. Apparently his filial magic doesn't work on supernatural things because it actually feels cold to him. It's almost like trying to touch space. There, but not. His mouth parts a little, ready to protest at the feeling of... he can't even describe it. The closest he can get is comparing it to linking to the Zero system, where it learns how you think, but this doesn't hurt. It's creepy, but it doesn't have that same affect. Before Duo can figure it out, the shadow thing pulls away and his attention goes back to Sheik. He's a little concerned that Sheik seems to be struggling so much.]

[The last little bit of Shadow joins the rest of the Shadow, and Sheik forces it all into the little disc. It glows for a moment, then fades.]

[Along with the Shadow disappearing, the clearing brightens once more, and Sheik's eyes fade back to their usual colour. He sighs and slumps forward, head resting in his hands. That... took a lot more energy than he'd anticipated, but he'd finished it. How successful it is, he's not entirely sure.]

[Screw the magic and shadows. Duo's leaning over and wrapping an arm around Sheik's shoulders and he puts a hand on his chest. He uses it as a way to check the movement of Sheik's heart and lungs.] Shady?

[Sheik halfheartedly tries to shake Duo off. He's panting a little, but it's not like he's hurt or anything.]

I am fine...

[Yeah, Duo's not moving that easily.] Ya sure? You don't look good.

That simply took more energy than I had anticipated. I will be all right in a moment. [He sits up and tilts his head back and looks at Duo.]

Should we see if it worked?

[Duo eventually and slowly moves away from Sheik. Well, not too far. He's not as worried now.] What should we do? I could go try ta get someone angry 'nough to wanna kill me. Or I could run into the barrier or a tree or somethin'...

[Sheik makes a thoughtful noise. He should still have enough energy to...]

Forgive me, Duo.

[He moves to hold the metal disc up where Duo can see it and with his free hand pulls a knife from seemingly nowhere and quickly drives it deep into Duo's side. There's something off though, about the 'blood' that begins to seep from the wound. As if it's not quite there.]

[Duo's eyes open wide. For a moment, he can't even believe what happened. His brain doesn't understand it. It's impossible. Sheik wouldn't- Sheik didn't just- Then his breath catches and he stops breathing, afraid as pain washes over his brain. He doesn't even want to move, afraid to make it worse, afraid to make the bleeding worse. It's not the first time he's been stabbed, but this is the first time he hadn't expected it and it's the first time a friend stabbed him.]

[Sheik pulls the 'knife' free and lets it drop so that he can let it dissolve unseen by Duo. He moves to sit behind Duo and presses his hand to Duo's 'injured' side. He presses the disc into Duo's hand before wrapping his other arm around the other and props his chin up on Duo's shoulder to speak to him.]

Look, Duo.

[Duo's brain is practically dying in his skull. It's running like an overloaded CPU, no idea what's going on, but lots of information coming in. He finally takes another breath in and that helps a little. But Sheik just stabbed him. And now he's holding him. And.. what? Look at what? Sheik just fucking stabbed him. Duo slowly brings his hand up to his face to look at the red glowing disk. He gasps again, cut short from a stab of pain. Shit it worked. And Sheik just fucking stabbed him to check!]

It works, then.

[Sheik can't hold the illusion any more, and he lets it dissolve. He's trembling slightly, from having used so much magic and so much energy all in one go, but he doesn't let Duo go. He just closes his eyes and rests his head against Duo's back while he waits for the effect of the illusion to wear off.]

[Duo's mind is slow to process this. It doesn't make any sense. What just happened? The pain in his side slowly fades and his breath returns to normal. What just happened? Sheik's holding him after he stabbed him.] What just happened?

...a test. It is fine now. [Sheik doesn't budge, though he does finally loosen his grip. He's apparently decided that leaning against Duo's back is as good a place to rest as any.]

[Duo's wings jerk a little under the pressure and from his agitation. Still he doesn't move to throw Sheik off.] But... what?

You wanted to see if the spell worked, correct?

Yeah... [Duo's brain is still struggling to understand what happened.]

That is what I did. The spell was successful, and you are unharmed.

But... I felt...

An illusion. Nothing more.
