[Celes considers all that, it does sound like everyone has been pretty complete, though it is always possible with all the different types of magic that must exist here that someone's may do something, or they just need to find another plan.] Has anyone attempted to study how the barrier is made? Do we know it is magical, or anything about it besides it's seeming inability to be broken?

[Locke is quiet for the most part; being raised far away from Vector as he was means he has much less exposure to technology than Celes, though having Edgar as a friend means he isn't completely ignorant. And with his own background and being forcefed the guide, he has a couple ideas of his own, though he waits until Duo comes back to ask them.] Has anyone tried to go under this thing? It's not often that people remember to guard against invasions from below, and if they do remember, they often don't sink their foundations far e-

[And that's when he gets an idea that just stops him midword, an uncharacteristically serious and troubled expression on his face, as something just slams into his brain. He waits a moment before asking it, with a grimace, because he isn't sure he wants to know this answer.] Duo... how often are these kidnappings? Often enough for the Malnosso to harvest their victims' inborn power for use in powering this shield?

[And after Locke's statement, Celes is just going to nod to show she agrees with that. In fact that was pretty much exactly what she was going to ask, minus the bit about the kidnappings, the mere thought of that has her horrified and that is likely evident from her expression.]

[Locke shakes his head, spreading his hands in a "who knows" gesture.] Who can tell why they do what they do in the first place? They have to have their reasons for bringing us here in the first place, even if it's just that they're completely insane. [Speaking from personal experience there.] But they're never going to tell us about them. And there has to be a reason for bringing the people they do, because I'm probably more human than you and yet I'm here. Maybe it's something they do during the kidnappings; maybe everyone has some sort of power that isn't dependent on any abilities they have. But it makes an awful kind of sense. It's like putting coal on a fire before it burns down.

((OOC: So, so, so sorry about the extremely late tag here. LJ didn't tell me anything was posted, so this is soooo late.))

[ooc: I'm watching it, just didn't have much to say to the last but other than agreeing, and well that would have been a lame tag indeed.]

[Celes does take a slice of the pizza and finds that it is actually quite good.]

It would be hard to say, there is much that we don't even know about ourselves. I know at least in the world Locke and I come from, the Empire did take energy from living beings we call espers and it was used to power technology. We called it magitek. Other worlds may well have done something similar, and the Malnosso made use of it.

It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility, and it should be looked into as a potential theory.

[Locke groans and pushes a hand through his hair, messing up his bandana and shaking his head.] Our world just turned into hell, literally - we're probably more used to thinking of the worst than you. But I'm no one special where I come from, I'm not noble or anything. I don't like using magic and can't use it anymore anyway. So why take me? It just doesn't make any sense unless there's something about me that doesn't have anything to do with magic as we think of it. I don't know - I don't know if I want to know.

It took a lot of machines and a lot of power to do it - the people who ordered it done were definitely evil. [He's being very careful to not refer to Cid in that group; he got the impression that the man was actually very decent, all things considered.] Bastards. They drained the life out of the espers, using it to power machines called magitek. But the espers were magic themselves - they all had something that wasn't unusual by esper standards, but was unknown in the rest of the world. So if we're looking at this in the same way...

[He glanced back and forth between the two of them, looking more grim as the discussion went on.] In this case, we're the espers. For better or worse we all have something they want to examine. We might need to find out what it is.

[Good plan not referring to Cid, Celes would definitely not be a happy girl if he was referred to as evil, she thinks of him as her grandfather since she doesn't exactly have a real family.] Don't forget about taking their power to give to humans like myself. I know what price my powers came at.

I wonder if when people are kidnapped if the Malnosso also try to find a way to take any special abilities we may have...
