_{[Locke groans and pushes a hand through his hair, messing up his bandana and shaking his head.]} Our world just turned into hell, literally - we're probably more used to thinking of the worst than you. But I'm no one special where I come from, I'm not noble or anything. I don't like using magic and can't use it anymore anyway. So why take me? It just doesn't make any sense unless there's something about me that doesn't have anything to do with magic as we think of it. I don't know - I don't know if I want to know.

[Duo leans back in his chair and laces his fingers behind his neck. Eventually he ends up balancing on two legs of the chair. He's thinking that over.] Ya know, there might be somethin' to that. It took a lot of machines and a lot of power to do it - the people who ordered it done were definitely evil. _{[He's being very careful to not refer to Cid in that group; he got the impression that the man was actually very decent, all things considered.]} Bastards. They drained the life out of the espers, using it to power machines called magitek. But the espers were magic themselves - they all had something that wasn't unusual by esper standards, but was unknown in the rest of the world. So if we're looking at this in the same way...

_{[He glanced back and forth between the two of them, looking more grim as the discussion went on.]} In this case, we're the espers. For better or worse we all have something they want to examine. We might need to find out what it is.

[Good plan not referring to Cid, Celes would definitely not be a happy girl if he was referred to as evil, she thinks of him as her grandfather since she doesn't exactly have a real family.] Don't forget about taking their power to give to humans like myself. I know what price my powers came at.

I wonder if when people are kidnapped if the Malnosso also try to find a way to take any special abilities we may have...

[Duo's going to look at Celes for a moment. He's working through what she just said and letting that sink in. Then he'll shake his head and shrug it off. It doesn't sound like something she wanted to happen and she does sound remorseful about it so it probably won't happen again. Besides, she seems like a nice enough person.] That's the kinda thing I was thinkin'. There's somethin' 'bout each of us that interests them and when they understand it, they send us back. But why keep me and send Quatre back? I'm just a pilot, but he had the closest thing I've seen ta magic in my world. He had ta be harder ta figure out than me. Could the experiments be them testin' out stuff they've learned from us? Like messin' with the weather. People here can do that. And takin' away the light.
