[Duo stares at him for moment. This isn't possible. Kamui died in his world so he couldn't have gotten any older... not like this.] Kam?

[No, the other one could have gotten older, but he doesn't look right for that either... still.] Mak?

[If Duo looks closer, he'll realise that Lan's hair has a dark blue tinge and his eyes are a deep blue instead. His features are strikingly similar to Kamui's though. He looks over.]

I'm sorry, I think you've got the wrong person. My name's Lan.

Yeah, my mistake... [Still, he looks so much like Kam. This is too much like when he ran to Mak thinking he was Kam.]

I ummm... you want somethin' ta eat?

[He sighs a bit. Gingetsu doesn't seem to be here... and he's been unable to contact him at all. He is feeling a bit hungry. He smiles a bit at the stranger offering him food.]

[Duo waves him toward a table.] Sorry, 's kinda weird 'cause you look like some guy I know. You'd think it wouldn't bother me at this point 'cause it's not even the first time and there's all kinds a weird shit that goes on here, but this is-

[Duo tries to shake off the weird.] Anyway, what kinda pizza you want and whatcha wanna drink?

[He sits down, then looks rather surprised] Some guy you know... [He hopes it's not his psychotic twin...] H- what is his name?

Kamui. They were both Kamui so I called one Kam and the other Mak 'cause they were kinda mirrors of each other rather than twins. Mak was a vampire too. Notta bad guy, but really prickly.

I see... I thought for a moment that you might have seen my twin brother... [and he doesn't seem too happy about the possibly of seeing his twin] ... a vampire?

[Duo thinks the odd tone is because of the vampire part and not because he's not happy about having a twin brother.] Yeah, one of 'em was a vampire, but he's been sent home. [Duo can't help himself. When he walks by Lan, he rests a hand on his shoulder, just for a moment. It's too much like seeing Kam depressed for him not to try to do something.]

[looks up and smiles a bit]

That doesn't make it any better. It's still wrong. You gotta look after your brothers, not kill one and make the other one upset.

[That's a little better. Duo offer a smile in return. He's not thinking as he says out loud,] Kam would be very handsome if he gotta chance ta grow up.

That's because he's ill... I wish there was something I could do to cure him instead of just run away. I am the oldest after all. I have to look after them.. him. I failed one of them.

[blinks a bit at that] Got a chance to grow up?

[Looks back at him before returning to the table.] Um, he's dead. Long story short, Kam sacrificed himself ta save the world so he never gotta chance ta grow up unless he stays here where he's alive again.

... perhaps it has to do with us having grown up in a laboratory... but I'm glad I got to meet Gingetsu.

Ah.. I-I see. This place brings the dead back?

Doubt that would be good for a guy's mental state. No way that coulda helped. But ya kinda lost me there.

Yeah, they'll bring back people who died in their own worlds and people who die here.

We were part of a government experiment. I ran away after our brother was killed and the government sent Gingetsu to recapture me. He did but I asked him not to take me back to the lab and he didn't and instead let me stay with him. He also managed to strike a deal with the High Council to let me live with him. As long as I am under his care, I am allowed to live outside the laboratory. Gingetsu was also like us one of the children who were part of the Clover project... I guess that's why he took pity on me. [smiles a bit] He doesn't talk much but he's always willing to listen to me when I feel like talking and he holds me when I cry. He's a very nice person. I'm glad I managed to meet him. Ah, I'm sorry. I've been talking so much... it's just that it's been so long since I've had anyone other than Gingetsu to talk to. I'm sorry for bothering you.

You umm... don't gotta feel bad if you wanna talk. Believe me, I do my share. But umm... that's weird. [making a face at him] I didn't get parts a that, but if you just wanna talk, you can do that. The parts I get I don't really like, but some of it's not so bad. Sounds like Gingetsu's a nice guy, lookin' after you and stuff. That's good at least.

Not really sure. We're not all dead. Hell, last I checked, the war was over in my world and then I was here. Pretty sure I didn't suddenly die. I still say we're partta some big experiment.

Thank you, Duo. What's weird? Okay. I've lived at the laboratory for as long as I remember... I might have been born there. I don't know. We were part of this government programme to discover children with special powers... We are called 'Clovers' and were divided into 4 levels according to how powerful we are. I'm a '3 Leaf' which is powerful enough to be a threat to the entire High Council of wizards if I ever turned against them. The 1 and 2 Leafs are very weak compared to me so they are allowed to live outside but I, the 3 of us, well, 2of us now, have to be under constant supervision.

The only time I've ever been outside is when I ran away after 'B' was killed. They named as 'A', 'B' and 'C'. I was 'C' though I'm the oldest. Then I've stayed inside Gingetsu's mansion till now. Gingetsu is a 2 Leaf. If I ever leave the mansion, they will kill Gingetsu... I don't want that to happen. I hope they don't find out I'm no longer at the mansion. I don't want anything to happen to Gingetsu. I owe him so much.
