[Looks back at him before returning to the table.] Um, he's dead. Long story short, Kam sacrificed himself ta save the world so he never gotta chance ta grow up unless he stays here where he's alive again.

We were part of a government experiment. I ran away after our brother was killed and the government sent Gingetsu to recapture me. He did but I asked him not to take me back to the lab and he didn't and instead let me stay with him. He also managed to strike a deal with the High Council to let me live with him. As long as I am under his care, I am allowed to live outside the laboratory. Gingetsu was also like us one of the children who were part of the Clover project... I guess that's why he took pity on me. [smiles a bit] He doesn't talk much but he's always willing to listen to me when I feel like talking and he holds me when I cry. He's a very nice person. I'm glad I managed to meet him. Ah, I'm sorry. I've been talking so much... it's just that it's been so long since I've had anyone other than Gingetsu to talk to. I'm sorry for bothering you.

... just what is this place? I shouldn't have died yet... I still have a few years left...

You umm... don't gotta feel bad if you wanna talk. Believe me, I do my share. But umm... that's weird. [making a face at him] I didn't get parts a that, but if you just wanna talk, you can do that. The parts I get I don't really like, but some of it's not so bad. Sounds like Gingetsu's a nice guy, lookin' after you and stuff. That's good at least.

Not really sure. We're not all dead. Hell, last I checked, the war was over in my world and then I was here. Pretty sure I didn't suddenly die. I still say we're partta some big experiment.

Thank you, Duo. What's weird? Okay. I've lived at the laboratory for as long as I remember... I might have been born there. I don't know. We were part of this government programme to discover children with special powers... We are called 'Clovers' and were divided into 4 levels according to how powerful we are. I'm a '3 Leaf' which is powerful enough to be a threat to the entire High Council of wizards if I ever turned against them. The 1 and 2 Leafs are very weak compared to me so they are allowed to live outside but I, the 3 of us, well, 2of us now, have to be under constant supervision.

The only time I've ever been outside is when I ran away after 'B' was killed. They named as 'A', 'B' and 'C'. I was 'C' though I'm the oldest. Then I've stayed inside Gingetsu's mansion till now. Gingetsu is a 2 Leaf. If I ever leave the mansion, they will kill Gingetsu... I don't want that to happen. I hope they don't find out I'm no longer at the mansion. I don't want anything to happen to Gingetsu. I owe him so much.

[Duo can't help reaching over to pat his shoulder again.] I know, sounds like you're right where ya left off, but on the good side, pretty sure ya are the experiment and not the one bein' experimented on.

Outside? I... guess so. But, to tell the truth, it scares me a little. There are so many people outside.

Yeah, the place is way more crowded than usual. You could make a break for the cleared area around the village or even the woods. Just try not ta blow up the place or somethin' alright? I'll probably get blamed and I don't wanna point fingers back at you.

Well, sorta. All you guys who just dropped in on us are. 'least I think so. Then again, their technology coulda gone ta hell and glitched out a bit. ... shit. Should be checkin' that barrier for a glitch if this is glitchin'...

Yes, the woods sound good. We don't have any of them left in my world. Almost all animals are exist as well. I-I won't blow anything up. My powers aren't like that. I can control and create machines with my mind. Mostly communication devices and teleportation.

Your world doesn't sound fun at all. The colonies might not have much, but at least we've got animals and stuff still on Earth. [Duo whimpers a little.] And me without my Gundam. I bet you could make my buddy even better. Damn.

Mmmmm guess you could put it that way. We don't really know how we end up here. Just that we do.

Different worlds... this sounds like a dream.

Perhaps. But I haven't really seen a lot of it. In the cities, there are no plants and animals, even pets are very rare. The only pets available are mechanical or bionic ones. Real cats and dogs are highly prized and extremely expensive. Almost all the birds in the skies are fake. Gundam?

Havin' a mechanical pet might be fun... I could mess with it all the time. Still don't think I like not havin' any animals though. Don't need ta see 'em or somethin', but it's still good ta know they're there and stuff.

's big robot that I fight in and stuff. If you can do stuff with machines, you could make 'im so much better and he's already the best Gundam.

Yeah, I could play with it, program it ta do stuff, be annoying, put a laser on it. It'd be fun.

Naw, I'd have ta follow orders if I was gunna be a soldier. And I've never met someone who was magic with machines... well unless you wanna count Howard who's kinda like a wizard fixin' my buddy up in almost no time, but 's not really magic.

[Duo's instantly very excited.] You can!? Do it! I mean yes please! That would be great!

[smiles a bit and nods then he holds out a hand and a communication visor thing appears out of thin air. He hands it to Duo.] I've tried contacting Gingetsu on this... but it doesn't work here.

[Duo takes it and instantly starts to tinker with it.] That is so great. Shame it doesn't work. I could use these.

[Watches as Duo tinkers with it, smiling a bit.] Would you... like to see some teleportation as well? I usually need my teleportation cage to move something big... but I should be able to teleport something small without it.

Well... [he looks round] I'll teleport that plate over there onto this table.

[He holds his hands in front of himself and a sort of holographic Rubik's cube appears between his hands and he starts twisting it this way and that. The plate slowly disappears bit by bit, little square bits actually if Duo pays close attention. Then the plate reappears on their table in the same way and when the teleportation is complete, Lan sighs, puts his hands down and the holograph vanishes.]
